The suspect, a resident of Colombo, had arrived from Bangkok on AirAsia flight FD 140 and was attempting to exit through the airport’s green channel, which is designated for passengers with no goods to declare.
Customs officers attached to the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit intercepted the individual based on suspicion and conducted a thorough search. During the inspection, they discovered 2,505 grams of a substance identified as “kush” hidden in his suitcase.
According to officials, the narcotics had been carefully concealed inside packets of dried fruit. The original contents of the packets had been removed and replaced with the illegal substance in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
Authorities estimate the street value of the seized narcotics to be approximately Rs. 25.05 million.
The suspect has been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway by Sri Lanka Customs to determine any potential links to wider drug trafficking networks.
