The Netherlands Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Wiebe de Boer, has commended the country for successfully conducting three free and fair elections despite facing a severe economic crisis.

The remarks were made during a special meeting with JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva, where both sides also reflected on the long-standing historical ties between the two nations.

Discussions further focused on efforts to repatriate artifacts taken during the colonial period, with the ambassador appreciating the contribution of Sri Lankan experts involved in the process.

Key areas such as tourism promotion and infrastructure development were also extensively discussed.

The ambassador was also briefed on progress made in combating corruption and efforts to curb drug trafficking, while attention was drawn to the economic potential arising from Sri Lanka’s strategic geographic location.
