Imported Samba Rice Prices Drop at Pettah Market

Prices of imported Samba rice have declined at the Colombo–Pettah rice market following the arrival of new stocks.

According to Ganesh Vinayagasundaram, Chairman of the Essential Food Commodities Importers & Traders Association, around 27,000 metric tonnes of rice have been imported from India so far.

He noted that prior to the imports, a kilogram of Imported Samba was priced at Rs. 280, but has now decreased to between Rs. 225 and Rs. 235.

Similarly, the price of Kiri Samba has also dropped, with a kilogram now selling between Rs. 240 and Rs. 255, compared to its previous price of Rs. 325, he added.
