According to Ganesh Vinayagasundaram, Chairman of the Essential Food Commodities Importers & Traders Association, around 27,000 metric tonnes of rice have been imported from India so far.
He noted that prior to the imports, a kilogram of Imported Samba was priced at Rs. 280, but has now decreased to between Rs. 225 and Rs. 235.
Similarly, the price of Kiri Samba has also dropped, with a kilogram now selling between Rs. 240 and Rs. 255, compared to its previous price of Rs. 325, he added.
