The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has announced that May 31, 2026, will be observed as a public holiday, following the official State Vesak Festival program scheduled for May 30.

An extraordinary gazette notification has been issued to formalize the change, revising the previously scheduled public holiday on May 02.

In line with a Cabinet of Ministers decision, Vesak Week this year will be observed from May 27 to June 2, allowing the nation to fully engage in religious observances and celebrations.
