The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has strengthened emergency response capabilities along the country’s expressway network with the activation of dedicated fire and rescue services at five strategic locations: Seeduwa, Galanigama, Kurundugahahetakma, Pinnaduwa, and Sooriyawewa.

This expansion is aimed at improving response times to road accidents, vehicle fires, and other emergencies along major expressways, where high-speed traffic incidents require rapid intervention to save lives and minimize damage.

According to SLAF officials, the new deployment enhances coordinated emergency readiness across key corridors, ensuring that trained rescue teams and firefighting units can reach incident sites more quickly than before. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national disaster response infrastructure and improve highway safety standards.

Motorists using expressways have been urged to remain cautious and cooperate with emergency services in the event of incidents, as authorities continue to develop safer and more efficient transport routes across the country.

With this expansion, SLAF’s role in public safety extends further beyond traditional air operations, reinforcing its contribution to national-level emergency response and disaster management.
