A fire broke out at the Ratnapura Public Market Complex, causing damage to nearly 90 shop units, according to local reports.

The blaze is believed to have originated on the second floor of the three-story building, where the majority of shops are located. The ground floor of the complex is primarily used as a parking area.

Firefighting efforts were carried out with the assistance of the Ratnapura Municipal Council and the Balangoda Municipal Council, who worked together to bring the situation under control.

Officials, including Provincial Local Government Commissioner Keerthi Bandara and Municipal Commissioner Aruna Premarathna, visited the site. An assessment is currently underway to determine the full impact of the incident.
