A section of the Colombo–Galle main road has been partially closed following arock dust from a moving lorry early this morning (April 23), police said.

According to Kalutara South Police, the incident occurred in the Kalutara–Wettumakada area, where the rear door of a lorry transporting gravel had reportedly opened, causing a large of stones to fall onto the road. The spill stretched for nearly 800 meters, forcing authorities to close one lane for safety reasons.

Police also confirmed that at least four motorcycles were involved in accidents after attempting to ride over the scattered gravel.

The lorry, which was traveling from Colombo to Galle at the time of the incident, has been taken into police custody. Authorities stated that the vehicle had been transporting the material in an unsafe and negligent manner.

Efforts are currently underway to clear the affected section of the road, while motorists are advised to exercise caution and expect delays when traveling through the area.
