The internationally recognized “Walk for Peace” has reached its third day today (23), continuing its journey across Sri Lanka under state patronage.

The Walk for peace is scheduled to proceed until April 28, bringing together religious leaders, government institutions, and members of the public in a collective call for peace and unity.

Today it will be commenced at 7:00 a.m. from Aluvihare in Matale and is expected to conclude at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy. The march holds deep spiritual significance, as participants are carrying a sacred Bo sapling obtained from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. The sapling was entrusted to the procession under the guidance of the Venerable Pannakara Thero and the Maha Sangha.

The event is being organized with the support of private institutions, including the Presidential Secretariat, the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, along with the Tri-Forces, Police, and the National Design Centre.

The “Walk for Peace” aims to promote harmony, spiritual reflection, and national unity, drawing participation from diverse communities across the country.
