The Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated today that the Mahanayake Theros have requested that May 30 be declared a Vesak Poya Day.
Accordingly, it has been proposed to observe Vesak Week from May 27 to June 2.
Meanwhile, May 31, which falls on a Sunday, has been designated as the public holiday following Vesak, the Cabinet Spokesperson added.
