‘Amber’ Warning Issued for Severe Lightning Across Several Provinces

The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory warning of severe lightning activity affecting multiple parts of the island.

The warning, issued at 12.00 noon today (22), will remain in effect until 11.30 p.m.

According to the advisory, thundershowers accompanied by intense lightning are expected in several areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, North-Central, Southern, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts, particularly after 1.00 p.m.

The department also noted the possibility of sudden, localized strong winds during these thundershowers.

The public is strongly advised to take necessary precautions to reduce potential damage and ensure safety during lightning activity.
