Authorities in Sri Lanka have arrested 50 foreign nationals for illegally overstaying their visas in the Negombo area, immigration officials confirmed.

The arrests were carried out by the Department of Immigration and Emigration following a tip-off that a group of foreigners was residing in a private residence in Negombo after their business visas had expired.

During the raid, officials apprehended 47 Chinese nationals, while the remaining three individuals were also identified as foreign nationals of other origins.

The operation was conducted by the department’s investigation unit, which had received credible information regarding the group’s unlawful stay. Further legal action is expected to be taken against those arrested in accordance with immigration laws.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing visa regulations and taking strict action against individuals who violate immigration rules.
