The internationally recognized “Walk for Peace” commenced this morning at 6:30 a.m. from the historic city of Dambulla, marking the beginning of a week-long peace walk promoting unity, harmony, and non-violence.

Organized under state patronage, the peace march is set to continue until April 28, drawing participants from across the country as well as international supporters. The initiative aims to foster a message of reconciliation and solidarity among communities while highlighting the importance of peaceful coexistence.

The opening ceremony in Dambulla saw the participation of government representatives, religious leaders, civil society groups, and youth organizations. Participants began the march in a spirit of unity, carrying banners and symbols advocating peace and mutual understanding.

According to organizers, the walk will pass through several towns and villages, allowing local communities to engage with the movement through cultural events, discussions, and public gatherings along the route.

Security and logistical arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth progression of the event, with authorities coordinating closely with organizers.
