Speaking during a special mass held this morning to mark seven years since the attacks, he said there are ongoing efforts by certain groups to hinder the investigative process.
The Cardinal also expressed concern over delays by the Attorney General’s Department in taking action, despite recommendations made by the Presidential Commission to proceed against key officials, including former Presidents, Defence Ministry personnel, and Police officers who failed in their responsibilities.
He emphasized that the Criminal Investigation Department must investigate all individuals linked to the attacks, whether directly or indirectly, regardless of their position.
Highlighting the importance of identifying those responsible, he noted that uncovering the mastermind is crucial to delivering justice and protecting the rights of victims and their families.
Cardinal Ranjith also called on Anura Kumara Dissanayake to honour his pledge made at Katuwapitiya Church in October 2024, assuring that the truth behind the attacks would not be forgotten.
He urged the government to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation to reveal the full facts, stressing that the pursuit of justice will continue until the truth is fully uncovered.
