Showers or thundershowers are forecast to occur across most parts of the island after 1:00 p.m. today, according to the latest weather advisory. Authorities warn that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in several areas, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Central, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Kurunegala district.

Misty conditions are also expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts. These conditions may reduce visibility and impact early commuters.

The public has been strongly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers. Residents are urged to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to flooding or falling trees.

Sea Conditions

In coastal areas, showers or thundershowers are expected at a few locations off the coast stretching from Mannar to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, and Pottuvil. Meanwhile, several areas off the coast from Colombo to Matara via Galle may experience evening or nighttime showers.

Winds in sea areas will be south-westerly or variable, with speeds ranging between 20–30 km/h. Although the general state of the sea will remain slight, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough conditions may occur during thundershowers.

Fishermen and naval operators are advised to exercise caution, particularly during periods of sudden weather changes.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and encourage the public to stay updated with official forecasts.
