The victims, a 55-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter, were living in a rented two-storey house located on Second Lane, Eksath Subasadaka Mawatha, off Pamunuwa Road. Authorities believe the fire was deliberately set, though investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause and motive.
Two other individuals the girl’s father and the 76-year-old owner of the residence sustained severe burn injuries in the incident. Both have been admitted to hospital and are currently receiving treatment.
According to reports, the fire broke out on the evening of April 18. Neighbors quickly responded, managing to extinguish the flames before emergency services arrived. They also assisted in transporting the injured victims to hospital.
Police have launched a full investigation into the incident, treating it as a suspected case of arson. Further details are expected as inquiries continue.
