According to reports, the incident took place around midnight on April 17 at a location identified as D.J. Watta, situated within the Bambarawana Usbim Colony in the Pitigala Police Division. The assailant is said to have used a sharp weapon causing injuries to the former MP.
Local residents alerted authorities shortly after the police officers from the Pitigala station responded promptly. Athukorala was subsequently admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
