Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has called on Catholic faithful across Sri Lanka to observe April 19 as a special day of prayer, marking the 7th anniversary of the devastating 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

In a message to the community, the Cardinal urged believers to unite in prayer, seeking truth and justice for the victims of the tragic events that shook the nation in 2019.

The coordinated suicide bombings targeted several churches, including St. Anthony’s Shrine, St. Sebastian’s Church, and Zion Church, causing massive destruction and the loss of hundreds of lives.

Cardinal Ranjith emphasized that while the government and security forces continue investigations to identify those truly responsible for the attacks, there have been attempts by certain groups to spread misinformation and obstruct the process.

He appealed to the Christian community to pray earnestly for the revelation of the full truth behind the tragedy and for justice to prevail, honoring the memory of those who lost their lives in one of Sri Lanka’s darkest days.
