A multi-day fishing vessel suspected of transporting a stock of illegal drugs has been brought to the Dikowita Fisheries Harbour following a special operation carried out in the deep seas of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka Navy took custody of the vessel yesterday (April 16) during an operation conducted by its Long-Range Patrol Unit. Along with the vessel, four suspects on board were also apprehended and taken into naval custody.

According to reports, the operation was executed in the deep southern waters of the country, where the vessel was intercepted. Authorities suspect that a consignment on board contains illegal narcotics.

The stock believed to contain drugs is scheduled to undergo further inspection. Meanwhile, the arrested suspects are to be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigations and legal proceedings.
