The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers and thundershowers across several parts of Sri Lanka later today, particularly after 1.00 p.m. Affected areas include the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Uva provinces, along with the districts of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.

Meanwhile, most other regions of the island are expected to experience predominantly dry weather conditions.

Early morning mist is also anticipated in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala. Motorists and commuters are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility during these hours.

Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage from localized strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.

Sea Area Forecast

Showers or thundershowers are also likely in sea areas off the southern coastline, particularly from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle and Matara.

Winds are expected to be south-westerly or variable, with speeds ranging between 20–30 km/h. Sea conditions around the island are generally forecast to remain slight. However, temporary strong gusts and rough seas may occur during thundershowers.

Fishermen and those engaging in maritime activities are advised to remain vigilant and monitor updates from relevant authorities.
