Sri Lankan authorities facilitated the departure of the group, including survivors from the IRIS Dena and crew members of the IRIS Bushehr, sending them home on a special flight.
The repatriation comes weeks after the sinking of the IRIS Dena off Sri Lanka’s coast during the ongoing US-Iran conflict, where 32 sailors were rescued while dozens were killed .
Sri Lanka had been hosting over 200 Iranian naval personnel on humanitarian grounds, following international maritime obligations, before arranging their return to Iran
