The National System Control Center has issued a special request to rooftop solar power system owners, asking them to voluntarily switch off their solar inverters today, April 14, until 3:00 PM. This appeal is aimed at managing the unique energy dynamics currently affecting the island's power infrastructure.

According to statements from EDL (Private) Limited and NSO (Private) Limited, this measure is a direct response to the significantly low electricity demand recorded across the national grid during the New Year festive season. As industrial activity and general commercial consumption slow down for the holidays, the excess energy generated by decentralized solar systems can create challenges for grid management.

Authorities emphasized that this voluntary cooperation is essential to maintain the overall reliability and stable operation of the national power system. By temporarily reducing the influx of solar-generated power into the grid, engineers can better balance the supply with the current low-demand levels, preventing potential technical instabilities.
