Indian national arrested at BIA with ‘Kush’ cannabis

A foreign national was arrested today (14) by officers of the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit for attempting to smuggle a stock of ‘Kush’ cannabis valued at approximately Rs. 2.87 million into the country.

The suspect has been identified as a 24-year-old Indian national, according to officials.

Investigations revealed that the individual had purchased the narcotics in Bangkok, Thailand, before traveling to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He later arrived in Sri Lanka via Malaysia Airlines flight MH-179 at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

During a thorough inspection, Customs officers uncovered approximately 2 kilograms and 87 grams of ‘Kush’ cannabis concealed within the side panels of a cardboard box packed inside his luggage.

The suspect, along with the seized narcotics, has been handed over to the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau in Katunayake for further investigations.
