Residents in several areas across Sri Lanka have been placed on alert following the issuance of early landslide warnings due to persistent heavy rainfall affecting parts of the island.

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) announced that the warnings will be in effect from 4:00 p.m. today (April 13) until 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (April 14).

Level-1 (Yellow) warnings have been issued for multiple Divisional Secretariat Divisions, indicating the possibility of landslides in vulnerable areas.

In the Kandy District, the warning applies to Yatinuwara and its surrounding areas.

In the Kegalle District, residents in Warakapola, Kegalle, and Rambukkana Divisional Secretariat Divisions have been advised to remain vigilant.

The Nuwara Eliya District is also under alert, specifically the Nuwara Eliya and Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariat Divisions.

Meanwhile, in the Ratnapura District, warnings have been issued for Imbulpe, Kuruwita, Opanayake, Pelmadulla, and Ratnapura Ambagamuwa areas.

Authorities urge residents living in landslide-prone zones to stay alert for warning signs such as cracks in walls or the ground, leaning trees, and sudden water seepage. People are also advised to follow instructions from local disaster management officials and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

The NBRO continues to monitor the situation closely as adverse weather conditions persist across the island.
