The Sri Lanka Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise caution when using social media during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season.

Authorities emphasized that people traveling during the holiday period should avoid immediately posting photos and videos of their trips on social media platforms. According to the police, such real-time updates could unintentionally reveal that homes are unoccupied, potentially making them targets for burglars.

The police further highlighted that publicly sharing one’s absence from home can provide opportunities for criminal activities. As a precaution, they recommend that individuals wait until they return home before uploading and sharing their holiday experiences online.

The advisory aims to promote public safety and encourage responsible digital behavior during the festive season.
