Special transport services deployed for Sinhala & Tamil New Year Travel Surge

In preparation for the массов holiday travel rush during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Sri Lanka has rolled out extensive special transport arrangements to ensure smooth and convenient travel for the public heading to their hometowns.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has deployed approximately 1,500 additional buses beyond its regular schedule to meet the increased passenger demand.

To further manage unexpected surges, 50 extra buses have been stationed on standby at key depots across Colombo, ready to be dispatched when needed.

According to National Transport Commission Director General Nilan Miranda, inter-provincial bus services are actively operating from major transport hubs including:

Bastian Mawatha

Kadawatha

Makumbura

Kaduwela

These locations are serving as central points to facilitate efficient passenger movement during the festive season.

🚆 Extended Special Train Services

Special train operations will continue until April 19, offering expanded connectivity across the island. Key routes include:

Colombo Fort ↔ Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura ↔ Kankesanthurai

Maradana ↔ Matara

Maradana ↔ Beliatta

🚉 Extended Train Routes

To accommodate the seasonal demand:

The Rajarata Rejini train, which normally runs between Beliatta and Maho, has been extended to Anuradhapura.

The Maho office train, usually operating from Colombo Fort to Maho, will also run up to Anuradhapura today.
