Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka next month, with both nations signaling a renewed push to strengthen bilateral ties—particularly in the fisheries sector.

In preparation for the visit, a key discussion was held at the Parliamentary complex between Ramalingam Chandrasekar and the Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. The meeting centered on investment opportunities and expanding collaboration in fisheries and aquatic resources.

According to the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, both sides engaged in extensive talks exploring new avenues of cooperation. These discussions are expected to align closely with the agenda of President Muizzu’s upcoming visit, which is anticipated to further solidify economic and technical partnerships.

Minister Chandrasekar highlighted the importance of knowledge-sharing between the two island nations, particularly in advancing their fisheries industries. He emphasized the potential for innovation through collaboration—such as combining the Maldives’ abundant supply of fresh fish with Sri Lanka’s well-established canned fish production sector to introduce new products to international markets.

The upcoming visit is expected to pave the way for strengthened economic ties and increased investment, reinforcing the longstanding relationship between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
