A special security programme has been implemented across Sri Lanka to ensure public safety during the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year festive season.

The measures have been introduced under the instructions of Defence Secretary Sampath Thuyacontha, with the aim of maintaining a secure and peaceful environment for the public throughout the celebrations.

The programme is being carried out under the joint leadership of the Tri-Forces, the Sri Lanka Police, and intelligence agencies. Authorities said the coordinated effort will oversee islandwide security arrangements and monitor events such as festivals, musical shows, and religious programmes held during the New Year period.

In parallel, a Special Operations Room has been established at Police Headquarters in Colombo. Staffed by personnel from both the Sri Lanka Police and the Tri-Forces, the unit will function as the central coordination hub for security operations during the season.

The Special Operations Room can be contacted via 011-2013051, 011-2027148, 011-2027149, and 011-2430912, or by email at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

Authorities stated that the centre will facilitate close coordination among security agencies, enhance information sharing, and ensure rapid response to emergencies.

The Ministry of Defence has urged the public to extend full cooperation to security forces and law enforcement authorities to help ensure a peaceful and secure New Year for all.
