Sri Lanka has witnessed a significant spike in gold prices within a short span of just 24 hours, according to the Secretary of the All Ceylon Gem and Jewellery Traders’ Association, R. Balasubramaniam.

As per the latest reports, the price of 24-carat gold per pound has risen to LKR 405,000, up from LKR 398,000 recorded the previous day. Similarly, 22-carat gold now stands at LKR 372,600 per pound, compared to LKR 366,000 yesterday.

This sharp increase in gold prices has directly impacted jewellery costs across the island. A gold necklace weighing one pound is now priced at around LKR 425,000, while a gold bracelet has climbed to approximately LKR 435,000. In addition, wedding rings have also seen a price hike of about LKR 20,000.

Alongside the rising gold prices, pawn brokers nationwide have also adjusted their rates. The loan advances offered per pound of gold have been increased in response to the upward trend in market prices.

The sudden surge highlights the volatility of gold markets and its immediate effect on both consumers and the jewellery industry in Sri Lanka.
