According to the advisory issued today (08), the warning will remain in effect until 11:00 PM tonight.
The provinces expected to be affected include Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, and North Western, along with the districts of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.
Officials also cautioned that temporary strong gusty winds may occur in conjunction with the thunderstorms.
The public is strongly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage and risks caused by lightning, including seeking safe shelter and avoiding open areas during thunderstorms.
