The Department for Registration of Persons has announced that efforts are currently underway to restore its computer system, which has disrupted several public services.

In an official statement, Commissioner General M.S.P. Suriyapperuma தெரிவித்த that, effective today (April 8), the department will only provide National Identity Cards (NICs) through its one-day service—and strictly for applicants with urgent needs. This limited service will be available at both the head office and regional offices.

However, the department clarified that all other services will remain temporarily suspended. These include the verification of NIC details and the translation of NIC information into English for both government and non-government institutions.

Authorities have requested relevant institutions to use alternative verification methods during this period of disruption.

The department further stated that normal public services and routine office operations at both the head office and regional branches will not resume until further notice, as technical teams continue working to resolve the issue and restore full functionality.
