Sri Lanka’s Parliament will convene today (08) under the chairmanship of Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, following a decision made at the Parliamentary Business Committee meeting held yesterday (07), according to Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera.

Earlier, the Committee had decided not to hold a sitting today due to the declaration of Wednesdays as a public holiday in light of the current situation. However, this decision was revised at yesterday’s meeting.

Accordingly, today’s parliamentary proceedings will begin at 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with business outlined under Standing Orders 22 (1–6). This will be followed by oral questions from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and questions under Standing Order 27(2) from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

From 11:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., a debate will be held on an adjournment motion presented by the government regarding the current situation in the country.

The Secretary General further stated that there will be no changes to the parliamentary schedule set for tomorrow (09) and the day after (10).

Meanwhile, it was also decided not to hold the second parliamentary week in April in view of the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival.
