National new rice festival to be held in Anuradhapura today (08)

The 59th National New Rice Festival is being held today (April 8) and tomorrow (April 9) at the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura.

The event is taking place under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

According to the Department of Agrarian Development, the festival has been organized with the participation of farmers representing all 25 districts of the island, symbolizing unity and gratitude for the country’s agricultural harvest.

Religious observances are being conducted under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana and Chief Sanghanayake of Nuwarakalaviya, Venerable Palleagama Hemarathana Thero.

The event is organized with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, along with several key institutions and organizations.

A number of dignitaries are expected to attend, including Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation K.D. Lal Kantha, Deputy Minister Namal Karunarathna, members of the Maha Sangha, government officials, and farmers from across the country.
