Authorities have called on the public to take precautionary measures as severe lightning activity is expected across several parts of the country today (07), with warnings in effect until 11.00 p.m.

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre noted that thundershowers with intense lightning are likely after 2.00 p.m., particularly in the Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces, along with several districts including Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Mannar, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu.

In addition to lightning, temporary strong winds may occur during thundershowers, increasing the risk of damage.

Residents have been advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open areas and refrain from using electrical appliances. Authorities also warned of potential hazards such as falling trees and downed power lines, urging the public to remain vigilant and prioritize safety.
