The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has announced that an internal fraud has been detected at National Development Bank PLC (NDB), according to an official statement.

The bank has informed the Central Bank that the incident could result in a significant financial loss. However, it has also confirmed that no customer accounts or deposits have been affected by the fraud.

Based on information provided by NDB, the Central Bank has conducted a preliminary assessment of the potential financial impact. It stated that even after considering the reported loss, NDB is expected to maintain its capital adequacy and liquidity ratios well above the minimum regulatory requirements.

The Central Bank further noted that it is continuing to monitor the situation closely and will take appropriate action if necessary.

Additionally, the statement highlighted that, if required, NDB has access to temporary liquidity support through existing facilities available under the Central Bank’s regulatory framework.
