Authorities have stepped up transport arrangements to manage the surge in passenger demand during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season, with both bus and rail services announcing special operations.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) said a dedicated special bus service will commence on April 9, aimed at helping passengers travel to their hometowns. The outbound services will run until April 13, while return services from outstation areas to Colombo will be available from April 17 to 21.

To further ease congestion, the SLTB will deploy around 250 additional buses on a daily basis, particularly to serve remote regions, with more buses to be added based on demand.

In parallel, Sri Lanka Railways has announced that special train services will begin from April 10. Additional trains will operate alongside regular services on key routes, including the Coastal, Northern, and Main lines, to accommodate increased passenger traffic during the festive period.
