The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has reported 10,455 child protection complaints in 2025, underscoring increasing public concern over child welfare across the country.

NCPA Director of Planning and Information Shanika Malalgoda said that 2,099 of the reported cases involved cruelty against children, pointing to continued risks faced by minors.

She added that a total of 11,409 child-related cases have been recorded between 2021 and 2026, signaling a worrying upward trend in reported incidents.

Authorities have called on the public to stay alert and report suspected child abuse through the NCPA hotline 1926, stressing that early reporting is crucial in safeguarding children.

Officials also emphasized the need for greater community awareness and involvement in preventing child abuse and ensuring the protection of vulnerable children.
