The Department of Meteorology has issued a heat advisory warning for tomorrow (April 6), highlighting potentially high “feels-like” temperatures across several parts of the country.

According to the Natural Disaster Early Warning Centre of the department, the advisory indicates that the heat index—representing how hot it feels on the human body—is expected to reach a “caution level” in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Eastern, North Western, Northern, and North Central provinces, as well as in the Monaragala District.

Authorities urge the public to take necessary precautions to minimize health risks associated with high temperatures. People are advised to stay well-hydrated, take regular breaks in shaded areas, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Special attention is recommended for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and those with medical conditions. The public is also strongly warned not to leave children unattended inside vehicles.

In addition, residents are encouraged to limit strenuous outdoor activities and wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing to reduce heat absorption.

The Department of Meteorology continues to monitor the situation and calls on the public to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines during this period of elevated temperatures.
