Christians around the world, including in Sri Lanka, are celebrating Easter Sunday today (April 5), commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

Special Easter services have been organized in churches across the country, with large numbers of devotees expected to attend religious observances.

The Catholic Church has also announced that special prayers will be held tomorrow (April 6) in remembrance of the victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. These commemorations will take place at key locations including St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya, St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade, and Zion Church in Batticaloa, where many lives were tragically lost.

During these services, prayers will also be offered for global peace, particularly calling for an end to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and for unity among people by overcoming hatred and anger.

Meanwhile, Good Friday (April 4) was observed yesterday, with many churches conducting traditional rituals such as the veneration of the cross and other solemn religious ceremonies.
