The new headquarters of Sri Lanka’s “1990 Suwa Seriya” ambulance service was officially opened today (April 4) under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

The new premises is located at No. 43, Horton Place, Colombo 07. The headquarters had previously been operating since 2016 from a privately owned building in Rajagiriya. With the relocation to a government-owned facility, it is المتوقع to save approximately Rs. 25 million annually.

Speaking at the event, the Minister stated that the Suwa Seriya service, which was launched under challenging circumstances, has now achieved stability and growth. He also expressed his gratitude to Dr. Harsha de Silva and others who played a key role in establishing the service, as well as to the Government and people of India for their support.

Currently, the service operates a fleet of 322 ambulances across the island. It receives over 5,000 calls daily and responds to more than 1,000 emergency incidents each day.

“1990 Suwa Seriya” is a free, pre-hospital emergency ambulance service aimed at saving lives and providing timely medical assistance to the public.
