The National Water Supply and Drainage Board says efforts are underway to reduce the duration of water cuts in several areas of Colombo.

Chairman Engineer Chandana Bandara stated that, given the current conditions, authorities are working to limit water interruptions to either 8 or 12 hours.

Due to ongoing dry weather, the Board had earlier implemented a schedule of 24-hour water cuts every three days in areas including Padukka, Homagama, Palanwatte, and Pannipitiya. However, following public inconvenience, this duration was reduced to 18 hours. Officials are now exploring further reductions.

Meanwhile, the Board has initiated a special contingency program to supply water via bowsers if disruptions worsen across the Colombo District. As part of this effort, water bowsers from other districts have already been redirected to Colombo.

Engineer Bandara also noted that approximately 20,000 water connections have been affected by the current supply disruptions.
