Public concern is mounting over what has been described as an intensifying trend of children consuming unhealthy, highly processed foods, with warnings that parents must remain vigilant about their children’s diets.

Health advocates caution that aggressive marketing by both local and multinational food companies has led to a surge in the availability and consumption of products containing artificial dyes, additives, flavorings, and other chemicals. These items are often marketed as appealing and nutritious, despite concerns over their potential health risks.

Commenting on the issue, Janaka Suneth Bandara noted that many families are unknowingly being drawn into a powerful consumer market, where convenience and advertising overshadow nutritional value. He warned that excessive reliance on such products could lead to a range of problems, including poor nutrition, increased health risks, and unnecessary financial strain.

Experts stress that parents play a critical role in shaping children’s eating habits and urge greater awareness when purchasing food items. They advise families to carefully check ingredients and prioritize fresh, balanced meals over heavily processed alternatives.

The warning comes amid growing calls for stricter regulation of food marketing and increased public education on healthy eating, as concerns rise over the long-term impact of dietary habits on children’s health.
