A team of officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau opened fire on a vehicle suspected of transporting illegal drugs in Negombo this afternoon (30), following a tense pursuit.

According to police sources, the incident unfolded when officers signaled the vehicle to stop for inspection. The driver, however, failed to comply and continued moving, prompting officers to discharge their firearms in an attempt to halt the السيارة.

The vehicle sustained damage during the shooting, and one officer attached to the Narcotics Bureau was injured in the operation. The injured officer has reportedly received medical attention, though the extent of injuries has not yet been officially disclosed.

Following the confrontation, police successfully intercepted the vehicle and arrested two individuals inside. A search of the السيارة led to the discovery of more than 500 grams of “ice” (crystal methamphetamine), a highly potent illegal narcotic.

Authorities have launched further investigations into the suspects, including potential links to larger drug trafficking networks.
