Special security and traffic arrangements will be implemented from April 1 in line with the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic Control and Road Safety) W. P. J. Senadheera said.

He stated that with the expected increase in travel during the festive season, additional traffic and security personnel will be deployed across the country.

Special attention will be given to key public transport hubs, including railway stations and main bus stands in major cities such as Colombo, where traffic control and safety measures will be strengthened.

The DIG added that the operation will continue throughout the Avurudu period, covering both outbound travel to rural areas and the return of people to cities after the celebrations.

Police said the coordinated plan, in line with previous years, will be implemented under the guidance of the Inspector General of Police, with officers already deployed for duty.
