Sri Lanka Police have announced the launch of a special traffic and road safety program in line with the upcoming festive season, set to begin on April 1.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Seneviratne, stated that the initiative is being implemented in response to the expected increase in public travel during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year period.

He explained that a larger number of traffic officers and security personnel will be deployed to manage congestion and ensure public safety. Special attention will be given to key urban areas, including Colombo, with focused traffic management and security measures around major railway stations and central bus terminals.

The DIG further noted that the program will remain in effect continuously from April 1 until the conclusion of the festive season, including the period when people return to cities from their hometowns.

Authorities urge the public to follow traffic regulations and cooperate with officials to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience during the holiday season.
