Sri Lanka’s Energy Minister, Kumara Jayakody, was served indictments before the Colombo High Court today in connection with alleged corruption charges.

The case was taken up before High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela, where the charges were formally presented. Minister Jayakody appeared before the court in response to a previously issued summons.

Following the serving of indictments, the court ordered that the minister be released on two personal bail bonds valued at Rs. 1 million each.

The judge also directed authorities to obtain the defendant’s fingerprints and submit a formal report to the court as part of the legal proceedings.

The case has been scheduled for a pre-trial conference on May 6, where further steps in the trial process are expected to be determined.
