According to the Department of Government Information, the disruption occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the department’s main office in Battaramulla.
As a result, all services including the expedited one-day issuance of National Identity Cards (NICs) have been halted at both the head office and all provincial branches across the country. The suspension will take effect from March 27 and continue until further notice.
Authorities stated that urgent steps are being taken to restore the system and resume normal operations as soon as possible. However, no specific timeline has yet been provided.
The public is advised to delay visits to ID offices until services are fully reinstated.
