Sri Lanka experienced a sharp contrast in minimum temperatures across the island today (March 25), according to the Department of Meteorology, with the central highlands recording significantly cooler conditions than coastal and northern regions.

The lowest temperature in the country was reported in Nuwara Eliya, where the mercury dropped to a chilly 7.8°C, marking the coldest reading of the day. Other areas in the central highlands also recorded relatively low temperatures, including 14.0°C in Bandarawela, 17.5°C in Badulla, and 19.7°C in Katugastota.

In contrast, much warmer minimum temperatures were observed in coastal and northern parts of the island. Mullaitivu recorded the highest minimum temperature at 27.4°C, followed by 26.2°C in Colombo and 25.9°C in Galle.

Meteorologists note that such temperature variations are typical, driven by elevation differences and regional weather patterns. The cooler climate in the hill country continues to contrast sharply with the गर्म and humid conditions prevailing in low-lying and coastal areas.
