The Iranian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Alireza Delkhosh, has reaffirmed that Sri Lanka remains a close friend of Iran, emphasizing that Tehran is prepared to provide assistance to the island nation whenever required. Speaking at a special press conference held at the Iranian Embassy in Colombo, the Ambassador highlighted the deep-rooted bilateral ties between the two countries.

Ambassador Delkhosh stated that Iran is fully prepared to supply oil and other essential goods to Sri Lanka should the government make a formal request. This offer comes at a time when Sri Lanka continues to navigate its economic recovery and energy security. The Ambassador reiterated that Iran has no desire to see Sri Lanka face any hardships, describing the nation as a highly respected partner in the region.

Addressing maritime security and trade, the Ambassador emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to Iran’s friendly nations. He underscored that Tehran's strategic maritime policies are not intended to hinder the trade routes of its allies, ensuring that essential supplies can continue to flow to cooperative partners like Sri Lanka.

During the briefing, Ambassador Delkhosh also expressed his gratitude for Sri Lanka’s prompt humanitarian assistance following a recent naval incident. He noted that the Sri Lankan Navy and Air Force acted swiftly to rescue personnel from the Iranian warship *IRIS Dena*, which was recently sunk by a torpedo strike from a U.S. submarine in international waters off the coast of Galle. Notably, the Ambassador pointed out that Sri Lanka initiated the rescue operation even before a formal request was made by the Iranian side, a gesture Tehran views with great appreciation.
