Following the proceedings, the court ordered that both defendants be released on two surety bonds of Rs. 5 million each.
The case is scheduled to be taken up for a pre-trial conference on May 15.
The defendants are accused of causing a loss of nearly Rs. 800 million to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation by cancelling three long-term fuel procurement tenders during 2017–2018 and instead arranging 27 spot tenders at higher prices. They are also charged with aiding and abetting the alleged offence.
