The establishment of an additional Commercial High Court aims to streamline the handling of commercial litigation and improve the efficiency of case proceedings.
The move aligns with recommendations made by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which has emphasized judicial reforms as part of broader economic and governance improvements.
This will be the second Commercial High Court to be set up following the appointment of Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena. Authorities expect the new court to help reduce case backlogs and enhance the overall effectiveness of the legal system in dealing with commercial disputes.
